CANPOTEX OVERVIEW
Canpotex, a Saskatoon-headquartered company that markets and delivers Canadian potash to more than 40 overseas countries, has committed $250,000 to the Nutrien Plant Possibility campaign. This donation will help to create a new home for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre (SFBLC).
In recognition and appreciation for this gift, the Reception Area in the new building will be named for Canpotex. This space will be the first point of contact for many including volunteers, donors, clients, media, visitors and more. The reception area will prove information and way-finding to all.
“That is why we are proud to build on our existing program support with a major gift to the capital campaign. The new location will allow SFBLC to continue its critical service to the Saskatoon community.”
The new SFBLC location will be a vibrant and lively hub for learning and connection with programs and services that go beyond emergency food distribution. Canpotex’s support will help to enhance the flow of food from pickup and delivery to storage and distribution with dock-ready shipping and receiving, and a building designed for this specific purpose.
Canpotex is one of the world’s largest suppliers of potash overseas. On behalf of its shareholders, Mosaic and Nutrien, Canpotex markets and delivers Saskatchewan potash, a valuable fertilizer nutrient, to customers. Canpotex’s potash helps the world’s farmers grow more food.
Canpotex has become a leading corporate partner of the SFBLC, having provided substantial funding and volunteering for nearly 10 years. This new capital donation builds on their recent commitment of $450,000 to SFBLC over three years through the Canpotex Food for Kids initiative, with a primary focus on providing nutrition for infants and children in Saskatoon. Canpotex recognizes the profound impact that adequate nutrition has on a child’s development and well-being.
Employees of Canpotex are also actively involved with the SFBLC, through volunteer time and annual food drives to deliver thousands of pounds of non-perishable, nutritious food. The recent focus of these food drives has been on infant formula, which is a high-cost item and extremely important for child nutrition. In 2023 alone, employees donated enough infant formula to provide approximately 12,000 feedings.
“Canpotex supports global food security by exporting potash for increased food production. However, food security is just as much of an issue right here in Saskatoon,” stated Gord McKenzie, President and CEO of Canpotex. “That is why we are proud to build on our existing program support with a major gift to the capital campaign. The new location will allow SFBLC to continue its critical service to the Saskatoon community.”
