in the face of reality

Between the rising cost of living and inadequate income support, Saskatoon citizens are struggling to make ends meet … as, the price of food continues to increase, and with this rising cost of living, many families are making tough home decisions, a common reality we as a community face more and more.

City Wide Food Drive

The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre is urging the community to come together for our annual City-Wide Food Drive, a month-long campaign focused on collecting food and raising funds to meet the growing need for emergency food support in Saskatoon.

Don’t let your neighbours fall through the cracks is a reminder that community matters. When businesses, schools, faith groups and community groups organize a food drive, they become part of a City-wide solution to make sure support remains within reach for individuals and families.

This is what the City Wide Food Drive is all about.

The hard Truth

Monthly, on average, 23,000 people access support through Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre, and nearly 40 percent are children. Behind those numbers are neighbours doing their best to stay afloat, parents skipping meals so children can eat, households making difficult choices between groceries, rent, childcare, transportation and other essentials.

Food insecurity won’t always look the way people expect. It can be hidden behind closed doors, alive in impossible food budgets, or felt in the stress of stretching meals just a little further. Food insecurity can affect anyone. Families with young children, working adults balancing inflation, students on limited incomes and seniors navigating life on a fixed budget.
