Maunders McNeil Foundation
The Maunders McNeil Foundation has donated $100,000 to the Nutrien Plant Possibility Campaign. This generous contribution underscores the foundation's commitment to making a tangible difference in the lives of those experiencing food insecurity in Saskatoon.
Born in Estevan, Saskatchewan in 1909, Maunders McNeil’s journey from humble beginnings to entrepreneurial success showcases the prairie spirit of resilience and generosity. The family relocated to Winnipeg in 1920. He worked alongside his father in the coal and heating business. He eventually took over the business then further incorporated heating and air conditioning, eventually expanding to seven Western Canada locations, serving British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Lakehead Ontario.
Driven by a deep-seated belief in the power of community, McNeil worked tirelessly to advance many projects he saw as worthwhile and in need of support. He served as the President of the Calgary and Winnipeg Cosmopolitan Club and as Governor of the Western Canadian Federation of Cosmopolitan International. He was named the Cosmopolitan of the Year in 1973 and International Cosmopolitan of the Year in 1974.
In the early 1980s he established the Maunders McNeil Foundation. This philanthropic Foundation is an extension of McNeil’s spirit and desire to bring positive change to the communities that had supported his business over the years.
Since McNeil’s passing in 1993, the Maunders McNeil Foundation continues to support many charitable causes that include health care facilities, medical research, food banks, women’s shelters and organizations supporting people with disabilities. Guided by a dedicated team of trustees and professional advisors, the Maunders McNeil Foundation ensures that McNeil’s philanthropic spirit continues to flourish, enriching the lives of individuals and families.
"At the Maunders McNeil Foundation, we believe in the power of community and the importance of supporting organizations that are dedicated to creating positive change," said Todd Rosenberg, Vice-Chair of the Maunders McNeil Foundation. "The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre plays a vital role in our community, providing essential resources and educational opportunities to those in need. We are honoured to stand beside them in their mission and contribute to the realization of their vision."
The donation from the Maunders McNeil Foundation will enable the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre to embark on critical renovations and expansions, ensuring that their facilities are equipped to serve more individuals and families.
